Do I need to already own a domain?+
Yes — hasl.ink doesn't sell domains, we just serve your page from one you own. Buy one at any registrar (Namecheap, Cloudflare, Porkbun — a .com runs $10-12/year) or reuse a domain you already have. Most people don't buy anything new: if you own yourname.com for your portfolio, point links.yourname.com at hasl.ink and your main site stays untouched.
Should I use a subdomain like links.mysite.com or my bare domain?+
Subdomain, in almost every case. links.yoursite.com or bio.yoursite.com works with a single CNAME record and leaves your root domain free for your actual website or a future one. Pointing a bare domain (yourname.com) at hasl.ink works too, but then hasl.ink is your whole web presence — fine if that's the plan, limiting if it isn't.
How does the DNS setup actually work?+
One CNAME record. In your registrar's DNS panel, add a record with the host you chose (e.g. links) pointing at the target we show you in settings. Save, then verify in your hasl.ink dashboard. Propagation is usually minutes, occasionally up to an hour. No nameserver changes, no transferring your domain, no code.
What about HTTPS — do I have to buy an SSL certificate?+
No. Once your CNAME verifies, we provision an SSL certificate for your domain automatically and renew it forever. Your page serves over HTTPS from day one with the padlock browsers expect. You never touch a certificate, and there's nothing extra to pay.
Does my hasl.ink/username URL keep working after I connect a domain?+
Yes. hasl.ink/you stays live and redirects to your custom domain, so every old bio link, printed QR code, and shared post keeps resolving. Your QR code and analytics carry over too — clicks and page views from both URLs land in the same dashboard, and scans of the existing QR are still tracked.
